Quick Afternoon Moffat Trip
On May 2, the BNSF’s Lincoln to Provo train had the Central of Georgia heritage unit 3rd unit, and the crew was called at 13:00. After checking the ATCS around 14:00, it appeared there was a westbound ready to leave one of the yard tracks at North Yard.
I headed down to Blue Mountain Road, where I could hear the radio all the way to North Yard, and I had internet access to keep checking the ATCS. Unfortunately, what I saw was just maintenance. So, there was nothing on the ATCS, and the scanner was as quiet as a mouse, so I headed for Crescent, as Amtrak was just leaving Frasier/Winter Park. After waiting there for awhile, I finally heard the horn, meaning it was here.
Some Night Shots From Fort Morgan
Monday night the 18th, my mom was getting on Amtrak at Fort Morgan to go to her hometown of Beatrice, NE. Amtrak normally arrives at Ft. Morgan at 8:25, but had lost a full hour while waiting on UP’s Moffat Route near Frasier. My dad was taking her, and I decided to tag along to see what kind of night pictures I could get.
Knowing it was late, we arrived at the Amtrak station at roughly 8:20. When we got there we saw a headlight of a westbound moving towards us. It was a grain train with BNSF 5022 and NS 9854 on the front and BNSF 6662 brought up the rear.

On Friday the 15th I was to meet up with Max and John for another railfanning day, this time on the Moffat. We were to meet at CO HWY 93 & 72 at 6:30 AM, but my alarm didn’t go off, so I didn’t wake up until after 5:30. I quickly made lunch and left, arriving at Rocky siding right around 7:00. As I was pulling off, I could see the DPUs of a westbound going over the east siding switch. So I turned around and got it at Blue Mountain Road.
